Pussycat, pussycat, where have you been?

… I’ve been to London, to visit the Queen!

Well, almost.

I was barely in London (if Gatwick even counts as London), and I didn’t see the Queen or any of the Royals – but I did spend a really wonderful 6 days in England. My parents were there on a longer itinerary and very, very generously flew me over to join them for the last few days of their trip.

Alpaca action!

Let’s step aside from the colour posts for a moment, and talk about alpacas.

Why? Because with tragic news pouring out of Boston and elsewhere, the world needs more softness, more affection, and more silliness, and alpacas seem to provide all three in spades.

Actual Knitting Content: PLATYPUS

I have been knitting the most brilliant, ingenious pattern – designed by my friend Selina Siu (Littlesplines on Ravelry). This is the kind of knitting that makes you giddy, because it’s so smart, and so simple, and yet it’s so unheard of.

Sweet Words

Just a quick post to say thank you to Francine and Natalie for their very lovely posts about my visit to Ottawa. You ladies make me feel like some kind of celebrity, which is a very odd, but very nice thing!

Thanks Natalie!

I had to be in Ottawa last week for a work event, and I was tweeting from the train on my way up. Natalie Servant, the designer of such patterns as Weeping Willow (from Knitty!), the very pretty Strand of Pearls shawlette, and  her brand new pattern, Shifting Ribs, happened to catch my tweets. She asked if I was going to have any spare time while in the city, and whether I might have any interest in visiting a yarny destination or two. Well, you don’t have to ask me twice! I had already planned to stay over the weekend with my grandmother, so I had a nice chunk of free time available.

A Cashmere Hug

Even while I was knitting the Damask shawl, by Kitman Figueroa, for my sister’s wedding, I was already plotting which of Kitman’s patterns to knit next. Seriously, that woman is some kind of stitch-whisperer; the way she combines stitch patterns is nothing short of magical.
